Which? Sun Creams…

June 10th 2015

The weather has turned unseasonably cold, but fortunately it doesn’t look as though it’s going to last long. There seems to be so much choice when it comes to buying sun creams so we checked out which ones the consumer group Which? ‘don’t buys.’

There are two main brands which do not offer the UV protection they claim, these are Boots Soltan Protect & Moisturise Lotion SPF30 and Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration Lotion SPF30 as they offer 2/3 of the protection they claimed SPF.

The SPF of a sun cream is the amount of protection a cream offers against UVB, which is the main cause of sunburn.

The other sun cream Which? said to avoid was the Piz Buin Ultra Light Dry Touch as this was another brand which had failed last year, and they won’t have reformulated it until 2017.

Which? executive director Richard Lloyd said: “We’re very concerned that a further two popular sunscreens have now failed our tests.
“Consumers must be able to trust and rely on the information provided by manufacturers so it’s disappointing to see well-known brands falling short.
“We want them to take action to ensure their products deliver the promised protection.”
