What To Do In The Month Of February In The Garden…

February 15th 2013
By: Melanie

If you are working to a budget then growing from seed is a simple and cost-effective way of growing plants for your garden. If you are considering growing tomatoes, chillis, aubergines or cucumbers, then February is the time to start growing them from seed. It’s best to grow plants indoors if possible as this will give them a good start. It might also be a good idea to water compost with a fungicide to prevent disease.

Depending on the weather, February is not really month where we like to get out in our gardens, but there are a few things we can do from the comfort of our home, or if the weather does perk up then here are some general things you can do for your garden in February:

• Plant hedging plants
• Fork and Rake over soil, adding compost where necessary
• Prune dogwoods, continues, paulownia and willows
• Sow sweet peas in deep pots and pinch out shoot tips once two pairs of leaves have grown
• Order any seeds from a garden mail order company, as these will take sometime to arrive
• Clean patios, paths and so fourth with a jet wash and cleaner.
