It’s at this time of year that we all start to think about giving our house a good Spring clean, but if you are worried about the impact on your family by using harsh chemicals to get it spick and span you don’t need to as it’s possible to clean almost anything using natural, non-harmful products, you just need to have the know how.
I am a huge advocate of white vinegar, it can be used in so many different ways, from cleaning lime scale from a kettle to cleaning windows and because it’s a natural product it’s not harmful to you, your family or the environment.
Glass and Window Cleaner
• 500ml water
• 250 ml white vinegar
• 1 to 2 drops of essential oil, lemon, orange or lavender – what ever your preference
Just mix together in a spray pump and apply
Rust and Ceramic
If you need a heavy duty cleaning product for use on rust stains and ceramic
• Half a lemon
• 50 g cup borax substitute such as Clear & Natural available to buy on Amazon
Just dip the lemon into the Borax substitute and scrub the surface.
Multi-purpose household cleaner – this is great for fridges too
• 4 tablespoons baking soda
• 250ml warm water
Dip a clean cloth in to the solution and use
Natural ring cleaner
If you have heat rings on your wooden furniture, use a full-fat mayonnaise just leaving it on the stain for around 1 hour and it should have vanished by the time you clean it off.
Mildew and Mold
Vodka can be used to clean mildew and mold, just spray it on to an affected area and leave for 10 minutes before wiping it off with some kitchen towel.
The scent of lemons
If you want to improve the smell of your dishwasher, just put half a lemon and set to a normal cleaning cycle, it will make it much smell much better.
If you cook a lemon in the microwave for about 1 minute – halving first, not only will it make it smell nice it will also loosen off any caked in dirt, just use a clean cloth and water to finish off the job.
