The average moving time in Essex and Herts is around two months* from sale to completion, so if you are one of these home movers who have been counting down the weeks we have put together a 5 step guide on what to do 7 days before moving.
Step 1: Make sure you label your boxes correctly. If you have employed the services of a removal team then the best way to ensure that all your boxes end up in the correct rooms when you move is to draw out a rough plan of the new property layout and number your boxes accordingly; so, for example, a kitchen could be room 1. Then give them a copy of the layout. Wrap all of your breakables in newspaper or bubble wrap and make sure you mark the appropriate boxes with Fragile. If you have some really fragile items and they will fit in your car then it would probably be best to transport them yourselves.
Step 2: Arrange for the internet and telephone to be connected to your new home - this can take some weeks so give your phone provider as much notice as you can.
Step 3: Take final meter readings, take a photo with your phone if you can and call up the appropriate utility companies with the meter readings. Keep a copy of this for 12 months after moving.
Step 4: If you have any regular deliveries such as milk and newspapers you will normally need to give 7 days notice.
Step 5: Don’t forget to let your friends and family know when you will be moving.
