With the kids back to school most of us will be focusing on how we can save money this autumn, so we’ve put together some money saving tips:

• Terminate your land line contract – more of us are getting rid of our landline contracts in favour of using suppliers such as Virgin Media for our broadband (as they can offer their service without one) and using our mobile phone for calls, this could save you £15.45 per month if you are currently with BT. With so many great mobile packages, including free calls this seems like a good way to save money each month. If you have a smartphone then download the Viber app, this allows you to make free calls via the internet.

• Switch your energy supplier, if you haven’t switched for a while then you could save up to £300 per year on your annual gas and electricity bills, try the site uSwitch.com for a quick check.

• Insurance savvy – most of us now use comparison sites like www.comparethemarket.com but you could save even more money by using sites such as Quidco.com to save more money on your insurance.

• Saving money on your food bill – with a large amount of our earnings going on food, the site www.lovefoodhatewaste.com offers storage tips to make your food last longer, to how to avoid throwing away waste and some great money saving recipe ideas. In England we throw away approximately 7.5 million tonnes of waste from our homes every year.
