White vinegar can be used for a multitude of cleaning tasks within your home, and the great thing is that unlike other cleaning products it is good for your health and the environment, plus its inexpensive compared to other cleaning products.

It can eliminate lime scale, get rid of grease and remove ink stains, coffee stains and red wine.

Here are 6 great ways you can clean your home using white vinegar:

 • Sterilising plastic chopping boards – to clean these immerse in vinegar for 15 minutes.

 • Cleaning your taps – wet some kitchen towel with white vinegar and roll it around the tap, leave it in place until it has removed all of the calcium.

 • Cleaning your kettle – fill up the inside of your kettle, covering the element or if you don’t have a visible one, fill up about 10 cm. Boil leave to coil and then clean inside with a cloth, repeat if needed, and then boil twice with water before using.

 • Unblocking the sink – put bicarbonate soda, (available from any supermarket), onto the top of your sinks trap and pour over the white vinegar and leave for about 15 minutes, then rinse away the residue and repeat if necessary.

 • Cleaning windows and shower doors – Mix 1/5 vinegar and water into a pulverisor and then spray onto the glass, wipe with a dry tea towels or absorbent kitchen paper. This is a great way to use old spray bottles, you can try out different strengths for different cleaning jobs and label them with sticky labels.

 • Vinegar is also a great way to clean your garden pots before storing them for winter.
