How to turn an ugly house into a lovely house

Is it possible to turn an ugly duckling of a house into a beautiful swan? That’s what George Clarke and a team of architects have set out to do on the new Channel 4 series ‘Ugly house to Lovely House.’ If you are not familiar with this one of the latest shows based on UK property, then it’s when a homeowner asks for help to turn their house from an ugly house into a lovely house. The owner sets a budget and then it’s the job of an architect (supplied by the show) –to come up with a way of altering, covering up and converting a home so that not only does it look good but also makes for a functional home.

Many of us won’t get the chance to appear on a property show to improve the look of our homes, but there are some simple ways in which you can improve the look of your home.

If you don’t like the look of the outside of your property then here are few things you can do:

Take a look at the openings – windows, doors, do these fit with the style of your home, would they look better in a darker colour for example, or perhaps they are too big for the proportions of your house.

Brickwork, if you have bricks that are too bright and garish you could paint on a tint which will dull down the colour

A simple porch can transform the look of a property if done properly

If you don't like the look of your homes exterior, perhaps it’s still adorned with the old style of pebble dash, so popular in the 70’s you could always clad it in either wood or for lower maintenance you could clad it in which comes in all different finishes.

Inside your property:

Inside your home, work out where you spend the most amount of time, and whether that space works well or not. Once you have determined the functionality of your home you could build up some house fee on-line to see if that space would work better, you could try https://roomstyler.com/3dplanner. Play around with the space before deciding on the end result.
