Moving home can be a stressful time, especially if you haven’t moved before. The key to a successful move is in the planning. So here are 10 tips to help your move go smoothly:
.One of the first things you will need to do is to set up a redirect on your post at the Post Office https://www.royalmail.com/personal/receiving-mail/redirection in order to do this you will need to give at least 5 working days, although we would recommend doing this at least two weeks before your removal date.
.Sort out your removal firm – get recommendations from your family and friends and ask for at least three quotations. If you plan to do the move yourself, then you will need to make sure that you hire plenty of able boded people for the removal day. You will also need to ask a supermarket to set aside boxes a few weeks in advance or order these on-line.
.If you have pets you might want to book them into a cattery or kennels or ask a friend to look after them during your move.
.Start using up the contents of your freezer and fridge this will make it much easier to clean it and move it on the day.
.Pack up a removal box full of things you will need, such as kettle, tea bags, coffee, cups, sugar, baby milk if applicable – all the things you will need on the day important documentation. Preparing a cleaning box is always a good idea too.
.Try and avoid moving on a Monday or Friday, as these are the busiest days on the roads.
7. Make sure you read your meters when you leave your property and where you arrive – keep these in a safe place as you might have to refer back to them.
.Prepare details for the next occupier, notes on bins days, manuals/guarantees if applicable.
.Make sure that you label your removal boxes clearly, the best way to do this is to allocated a number to each room with and draw out a home diagram which matches.
.Make sure you insure your new home before you move in.
