That’s exactly what Yorkshire born, Brendon Grimshaw did in 1962, he bought his island for only £8,000.
The island, called Moyenne was a barren space when Mr Grimshaw originally bought it, but after introducing several thousand types of trees to the island, as well as reintroducing the indigenous giant tortoise it has now been classed as a national park. Mr Grimshaw was featured on BBC’s Indian Ocean with Simon Reeve, a series covering the expanse of the Indian Ocean.
If you fancy owning a slice of the Indian Ocean there are several islands available for sale, ranging from a cool $6,000,000 for a 59 acres island called Bandaa Dhidoo, offering white sands, crystal waters and live coral.
