Gardening Doesn’T Have To Be Olympic To Burn Off Those Calories

With all this rain our gardens are looking greener than ever, but before you curse those ever reappearing weeds you might want to consider how many calories you burn when attending to your garden.

Gardening is a great way to keep fit, without having to go to the gym. Mowing the lawn with a non motorised lawn mower will burn up even more than using a hover mower, and this and weeding can burn up to 300 calories per hour, and planting new trees and hard landscaping can burn up even more.

Raking your driveway and paths, is another really good way to give your body an Olympic work out.

Despite this year’s bad weather, the evenings are still long enough to spend some lengthy periods outside, if you work in an office this is a great way not only to get fit but also relax. However if you find yourself glued to the TV watching the Olympics then you can always put it off until the end of the summer, and you will have even more to do, and you will be able to burn off even more calories.
