What To Do In The Garden This Spring...

This Sunday as well as it being Mother's day it is als officially the start of British summer time, with the clocks going forward by an hour, so with the days drawing out we will be able to spend more time in the garden, so we have put together a list of jobs to do in the garden this spring:

The weather has unfortunately turned a bit colder recently so be aware of last frosts when planting out, and if you have put some new plants in then make sure you protect new shoots by covering. Resist the temptation to put tender bedding plants until the end of April.

This is a good time of year to start dead heading daffodils and narcissi, let them die back into the soil and put either some liquid feed or some bonemeal on them. Don’t be tempted to cut off the leaves as these will help to boost the bulbs for next year.

Spring clean your garden, by getting rid of weeds, digging over flower beds, sweeping away any dead leaves on paths, drives etc. Especially if you are preparing to sell your home.

Put some mulch on your plants, by using your own garden compost or leaf mold, if you use manure make sure it is well rotted.

This is the time of year when slugs and snails love to eat new shoots, so make sure you some pet friendly slug pellets to eliminate them before they surface.
