There are so many English Heritage delights in Essex but if you have not yet visited Audley End House and Gardens just outside of Saffron Waldon in Essex it's a treat not to be missed, especially next week end. Saffron Waldon's very own Downton, will be bringing to life the experience of what it was like to be living in a time when the world was divided by stairs. Life Above and below stairs at Audely End starts on Sat 17 & Sun 18 May 2014, runs from 10am - 6pm and is suitable for everyone in the family.
Costumed characters have been rehearsed to present Audley End as it was in it's Victorian heyday every weekend throughout the Spring of 2014. The experience promises to feel like walking through a real life period drama. You are likely, they say, 'to come face to face with Mrs Crocombe as she prepares a meal for the family, bump into the stablehand while they're grooming the horses, and meet Governess Miss Dormer and the other staff as they organise the children for the day.'
Ticket prices also include full access to the rest of the House and Grounds, especially the must see newly opened Victorian nursery which gives you a glimpse behind previously closed doors to see how Victorian children played and grew up.
English Heritage Members: Free
Child, 5-15 years: £9.20
Other things not to miss are the -
