Jon Cooke, director at Intercounty has been cycling around the UK to help raise money for the estate agency foundation. Here is his lastest blog about his journey.
8am start on the coast at South Shields, a surprisingly emotional moment as Martin went north and the 3 of us went south. Martin, it has to be said very much with the wind behind him and unfortunately on day 18 the 3 of us very much had the wind in our faces!
The picture shows Martin just before he starts who, since I saw him 2/3 weeks ago, is now sporting some Bradley Wiggins style side burns, which seems to becoming a bit of a theme for the trip. If only I could grow some!
For the first part of our journey, my children joined us for 7 miles into Sunderland, where they played a game called “sweet and sour” with Sean, I am not too sure what it involves but it’s something to do with saying “hello” to everyone you meet and you score points on your response. Hattie was very pleased to be the winner. The children were dropped off in Sunderland and then we carried on for the rest of our journey which, with a combination of wind, punctures and trying to find estate agents in big towns, was probably one of our slowest days. However, the welcome and the support shown by industry colleagues as we visit these agents is very motivational.
The afternoon saw us cycling against the wind over the very hilly North York Moors, not a lot of conversation, just lots of gritted teeth and determination got us into Whitby late in the afternoon to enjoy another rest day tomorrow.
