If you are planning a stay vacation with your children this summer holidays then you will be able to enjoy the best of both worlds this year, the wonderful English weather we’ve been experiencing and saving money by staying at home and doing more free things such as going for walks and swims in your area.
However, if you do fancy a day trip out to somewhere during your stay vacation one of the great places to enjoy throughout the summer holidays in Audley End House, in Saffron Walden, because as well as a chance to visit the grounds, park and house they also have weekly activities running throughout the school holidays.
This week their event, running from the 23-27 from 11am-5pm is ‘Victorian’s Worst Job’ and as you can imagine it’s all about working during the Victorian period. The organisers say that children can join in their careers fair with a difference, where they can travel back in time to those days when children swept chimney’s, to matchstick makes to porcelain glazers. Learning about all the nitty gritty from dirt, filth and disease to possible death.
Throughout the month of July, they have also been holding Victorian weekends, the last one is on this weekend Saturday 28th and 29th from 11am-4pm. Adults will probably find it reminiscent of the TV series Upstairs Downstairs or Downton Abbey. Visitors will get the chance to go to the world below the stairs to get a real glimpse of what it would have been like in 1881. Mrs Crocome the cook and her maids will be preparing an authentic meal for the Braybrooke family, and also the chance to meet Mr Baker the stable-hand and Mrs Warwick organising the house for the day.
