Each year on the 22 September people around the world participate in the annual car free day, it’s a day when people stop using their cars and instead try out other alternatives such as public transport, walking or biking to get to work or school. People are also encouraged to work from home where possible.
Car free day started way back in the 1970’s during the oil shortage and during the 90’s more European countries have continued to hold this car free day.
The idea behind this day is to help promote different ways in which we can travel to work/school, either by car sharing or using public transport. Cars not only pollute the environment they also contribute to noise levels. The World Car Network or WCN wants people to think about avoiding using their cars throughout the year, as they say it would result in a better environment in our cites and towns.
