How To Sell Your Home This Winter…

November 3rd 2014

The outside of your home is one of the most important factors when selling a property, and it needs to offer what we call in the industry, ‘Curb Appeal’. It’s said that many homebuyers will make decision to buy or not within the first few minutes of a viewing, so getting it wrong from the outside could lose you a potential sale.

In order to see whether your home is appealing from the front try and look critically at the outside. It’s important that the exterior of your house is presentable, this doesn’t just mean the façade but also your garden and any outbuildings. In winter English homes don’t look at their best, if your home has any winter algae then clean it with either a jet wash, depending on the surface or a sponge with a solution of water and bleach.

Reshaping lawns can make a huge impact, as so can neatening flowerbeds, clearing them of leaves and forking them over.  Make sure drives and paths are also cleaned and slip proof. If you would like to inject a bit of winter colour into your garden then check out our winter planting guide.

Lighting is really important in winter, if you have an outside porch then make sure you turn the light on for a viewing this will make your home feel warm and inviting.

During a house viewing make sure your home feels really warm, and if you have a wood burner or operational open fireplace make sure it’s lit when you have house viewing, this will enable your potential buyer to visualise a winter lifestyle. Again lighting is key in winter, make sure your windows are clean which will maximise the amount of natural light entering your home, curtains will also need to be properly pulled back and turn on the lights including lamps.

If you are planning to sell your home this winter and would like some ideas on how to maximise its potential why not pop in to your local branch of Intercounty for a coffee and a chat or give us a call on 0844 8111090.
