How to improve a tricky loft space…

Developing a loft space in a property is a great way to increase the footprint of your home as well as adding value to your property However these spaces can be a bit tricky if not carefully planed out – restricted ceiling heights, slopping walls and lack of natural light can sometimes make the space feel like a compromise. But a room in a loft doesn’t need to feel like a half-measure, if they are designed well they can become a valuable addition to any home. So here are a few suggestions from the Houzz website on how to deal with your tricky loft space:

If you create a floor to ceiling window in the apex of your loft space this can really help with increasing light into the room. Cleverly placed mirrors can work well to reflect light as well.

Think about ordering bespoke cupboards to fit the space, this will enable you to create storage in difficult areas. If you would like an en-suite and there isn’t enough head room think about installing a bath instead of a shower, and rather than using a wall to divide a bathroom from a bedroom use a shelving unit or wardrobe to give a visual divide as this make it feel more spacious and will allow more light to come into the area. Or alternatively use a glass petition.

Depending on whether you receive planning consent, you could think about adding a partial roof terrace to your loft development, you could create half of the roof into a room which could be used as an office, bedroom etc then use the rest of the space as a roof terrace, add glass to the end wall and it would create a fantastic feeling of light and space.
