How long does it really take to sell a property?

If you are thinking about selling your home or have instructed an Estate Agent to sell your home, you are probably hoping for a quick offer. However, in reality, unless you are really lucky and the right buyer comes along straight away it could take some time to sell your home.

On average at Intercounty it takes 9 property viewings per offer. Highlighting the importance of making your home look at its best before you put it on the market and during the marketing process. Over the past few years’ buyers have much more patient when selling a home and are prepared to take more time and view more properties. This is reflected in recent data from Rightmove who have stated that in 2018 it took 67 days to complete compared to the previous year of 55 days.*

There are also peak times to sell property such as in the New Year and Spring. If you market your property in the spring then there is still the enthusiasm of the new year in the air as well as the Easter bank holiday weekend when people get the chance to sit down and get together to take look at properties and make decisions. Properties also tend to look better in Spring as the new flora appears in our gardens making everything look more appealing.

If you are thinking about marketing your property this Spring then here are a few quick tips to help ensure a speedy sale:

• Give your property curb appeal - go along to your local garden centre and brighten up boarders, baskets and plants in your front garden to make it look appealing

• Buyers love bright and light properties, so maximise the light coming into your home

• De-clutter, including worktops, sitting rooms, make the beds, shine up those bathroom taps

• Neutralise your colour scheme

If you’ve just sold your home then how long did it take? We’d love to hear from you.
