It’s at this time of year that we often get a flurry of buyers looking to move home before the start of the new school year. And according to a survey from the property web portal Rightmove, parents are willing to pay more than £50,000 in order to be in a catchment area of a good school. In the South East this rises to an average of £71,979, with parents paying the highest premium in London, around £80,500 more.
These premiums apply to properties that are in close proximity to schools that receive grade 1, ‘outstanding’ from Ofsted. According to their research only 20% of English primary schools have been rated ‘outstanding’ with 62% receiving ‘good’, grade 2.
