Fantastic News For Saffron Walden As The Tour De France 2014 Will Cycle Through…

The prestigious Tour de France is coming through Uttlesford next year, on route from Cambridge to London on the 7th July 2014. It will be passing near to two of the Intercounty branches; Intercounty Saffron Walden and Intercounty Chelmsford on stage three.  
 
The 101st tour will be starting in Leeds on the 5 July, the race will then go Northwest across the Yorkshire countryside, including the Yorkshire Dales before finishing that day in Harrogate. York will be hosting the second stage and riders will be passing through Keighly and Huddersfields before arriving in Cambridge.
 
The Tour director Christian Prudhomme stated: “The Grand Départ of the Tour de France 2007 in London, the first ever organised in the United Kingdom, will remain unforgettable. We are very glad to return, seven years after, to this magnificent city,” stated the Tour director
 
Stage three will then start from Cambridge, passing through the Chesterfords and Littlebury before continuing to Saffron Walden, through the high street, past Swan Meadow car park, then along George Street, East Street, which merges into Radwinter road, along the B1053 before continuing on the journey to Sewards End and Radwinter. The Tour will then continue through parts of Chelmsford before ending at Buckingham Palace later that day.
 
The MP, Sir Alan Haselhurst for Saffron Walden said that he was delighted by the news, he also stated that it is a once in a lifetime opportunity that will help put Saffron Walden on the map. He said to the Walden Reporter “This is fantastic news for the town, especially for cyclists who will love this event.
 
“It brings some excitement to Saffron Walden. Let’s hope it also brings more people into the town and into our shops.”
