Country Cottages Offer The Perfect Marriage Of Old And New…

Escaping from London and finding that perfect rural idle is one of the things that city dwellers aspire to when thinking about planning to have a family or moving out to enjoy a slower pace of life.
The home counties not only offer a perfect rural retreat from the hustle and bustle of the inner city, but also an easy commute each day, for example the counties of Essex and Hertfordshire offer an under the hour commute to London. These counties also offer an abundance of benefits; glorious countryside, great value for money, market towns, a slower pace of life, good schools and great local communities.
When considering a move to the country, for most people the dream is to move into a picture box country cottage, but being renowned for small, badly lit rooms and low ceilings, they are not always a buyer’s first choice when moving to the country.  This can be a common misconception, as cottage owners who love the feel and charm of being in an old property, can change the look and feel of a property inside by combining new sympathetic architecture with old, even under strict planning regulations.
A perfect example of this is a property we have for sale in Stansted, Essex. From the outside the five bedroom Tudor cottage looks really old, it has a pantiled roof, oak beams and mortar, originally made with wattle and daub (a mixture of interwoven branches, the wattle, mud and the daub). However, on the inside the current owners have brought the house into the 21st Century, by creating an open plan lounge where there were previously two rooms, increasing the light and feel of inside of the property, but they have protected the integrity of the original building by keeping the original oak beams and beautiful ingle nook fireplaces, ideal for a modern family lifestyle, but also a perfect retreat for those cold winter nights.
They have also modernized the kitchen by adding contemporary style units and granite worktops, which do not jar against the old structure, but compliment it, resulting in a perfect marriage of old and new.
If you are thinking of moving out of the City in search of a perfect country home, then why not give Intercounty a call, we have fantastic local knowledge across Essex and Hertfordshire, and we will be more than happy to share it with you.
