This year’s Sunday Times Best Places to live in England have just been revealed and Chelmsford has come top in 2018 the poll. Over the past few years, Chelmsford has really flourished, due to investment in both the architecture and new infrastructure.

There is also a long list of good schools that are attracting family buyers, two of which are King Edward VI and Chelmsford County High Schools for girls ranked 15th and 12th places in the Sunday Times Power Guide. Others include Beehive Lane Community, St Anne’s and St Cedd’s and good rated secondary state schools such as Sandon and the Boswells.

Let’s not forget its appeal to commuters, offering a 35-minute train journey into the heart of London’s Liverpool’s St Station.

An overhaul of some of the less popular places have made it much more appealing, a stroll along Moulsham Street, full of independent shops and cafes has a really exciting vibe, a great way to spend a Saturday morning or an afternoon shopping. There is also a good selection of high street chains to choose from too.

Affordable housing has also made Chelmsford very popular with commuters, with the average price of a first home starting at £192,140, a middle range house at £380,850 and an average large family home at £563,410.
