Buyers pay a premium to live in market towns

The relentless wave of people moving out of London and into the Home Counties, such as Hertfordshire has been pushing up house prices in popular market towns such as Bishop’s Stortford. City buyers are attracted by the better value for money properties, good schooling, quaint towns which have everything from high street chains to individual shops, pubs, restaurants and coffee shops.

According to Home and Property, property buyers will pay on average £44,000 to live in a good-sized market town compared to the surrounding county. Increasing on average by £915 per year, making towns like Bishop’s Stortford very attractive.

So what makes Bishop’s Stortford so appealing to buyers? – It is really a vibrant hub as well as offering an easy commute into London’s Liverpool Street just 38 minutes, with an annual season ticket costing £5,400. There are plenty of places to shop with Jackson’s Square housing several high street chains as well as a high street with plentiful timber properties housing a good selection of individual shops, bars, coffee shops and restaurants. There is even a good selection of wine and cheese bars and a new gin bar and a farmer’s and crafts market every Thursday and Friday.

There is Rhodes Art Complex with cinema, theatre and dance studio. As well as plenty of leisure activities in the golf centre and tennis club.

Nearby in the National Trust’s Hatfield Forest the perfect place to go for a stroll or have an enjoyable day with the family.

Good schools in this market town are St Mary’s Catholic and the Bishop’s Stortford High School and Windhill21 and St Michael’s CofE Primary School.
