Bishop’s Stortford - some of the best performing schools in the country

If you are looking for a fantastic place to bring up your children then it’s well worth considering a move to the market town of Bishop’s Stortford, as the town has some of the best school in the country, some of which have been selected by the Independent as ranking in the top 100 schools. 

The Independent produced a list with the 100 best performing schools in the country, with Hertfordshire and Essex High ranking 6 out of 100 schools - 91.3% of pupils achieving GCSE’s of  A*-C and 44.40% gaining an A*or A. Hockerill Anglo European College ranked 21, with graduates achieving GCSE results of 85.96% A*-C and 41.41% A*or A. Bishop’s Stortford College was also GCSE results were 3.5% above the National Average with 70% of graduates gaining 70% A*-A and 99.5% A*-C, in maths 94% of pupils gained at least 5 or higher and 8% achieved the top grade 9.

Windhill primary school in Bishop’s Stortford was also in their top 10 of primary schools in Hertfordshire. 

Bishop’s Stortford remains very popular with families, not just because of the great schooling, but also because this pretty market town can offer the full family package. The pretty centre has everything you could need from supermarkets to independent retailers, a market every Thursday and Saturday and a whole host of coffee shops, bars and restaurants.

The town has a real sense of community, there’s always lots going on in the evenings and weekends. Families can also enjoy several parks including the Southern Country Park which covers over 23ha. The park has several distinct areas, with the balancing pond for fishing and duck feeding, the enclosed picnic area and large grassed areas for informal play and kite flying, plus an exciting older children's play area and dog agility area adjacent to the car park off Thorley Lane East. There are also a wide variety of wildlife habitats and features such as woodland, grazing areas, chalk banks, informal play spaces, streams and a small natural pond.

For commuters, the town offers a 38 minutes train journey into London Liverpool Street with over 120 trains each day.
