Living in and around Saffron Walden
Saffron Walden is a traditional market town in Essex, situated close to Bishops Stortford and Cambridge. Saffron Walden has a rich heritage of old buildings reflecting its wealth as a rural market town, a market has been held here since 1141 and markets are nowadays held on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
Located within North West Essex is the medieval market town of Saffron Walden. Situated within the heart of the town is St Marys Church, which boasts one of the largest parish churches in Essex.
A town market has been held within Saffron Walden since 1141, and is still currently practised today twice throughout the week. The town is home to the well-regarded Saffron Walden County high sixth form secondary school, as well as many other Primary and Secondary schools.
The nearest train station is Audley end, which provides a frequent train service to London Liverpool Street via Stansted Airport. Further to this there are several bus services running from the town centre to local amenities, schools/colleges and Stansted Airport. Saffron Walden is situated west of the M11, which provides a quick and easy route into London.
