Creating a perfect garden in pots is relatively easy, even for an inexperienced gardener, it can be great fun for the kids, and you can create a wonderful potted garden in a few hours.

All you need to create your own potted garden is some old containers, these can be disused toy containers, old bins, and so forth, all you will need to make sure is that your plant/s have plenty of space to grow.

If you don't have a very large garden, much time, or you don't particularly like gardening even the smallest of space can be transformed by growing some potted plants, plus it's virtually weed free, cutting down maintenance time.

How to prepare your container or pot:

All you will need to do is to add some drainage holes to your container; this can be done by using a drill to make the holes, put some gravel or broken pots into the bottom (so your plants can drain easily), and finally add some decent soil and some plants or seeds.

Easy container herbs:

These grow really well in containers, and can add a real zeal to your cooking. Easy herbs to start with are Oregano, Mint, Sage, Thyme, and Rosemary.

Easy container vegetables:

If you fancy growing your own vegetables then you could start with peas, potatoes (these would be ideal in an old dustbin, as they need to be covered with soil), tomatoes, carrots, radishes, cucumbers and courgettes. Children also love picking vegetables.

Easy container flowers:

Nasturtiums can be grown easily from seed, and the added bonus is that the flowers they can be eaten too. Geraniums, fuchsias and pansies also grow easily in pots.

Mixed containers:

By mixing your containers with herbs, vegetables and flowers can sometimes give the most impressive results in a garden.

After you have planted your containers you will need to make sure that you water your plants regularly ensuring that they can never dry out, and in a short amount of time, and with little effort you should have a lovely backdrop to relax in.
