Great Baddow was named after the River Baddow, now known as the River Chelmer, which runs a mile or so east of the village. For the lover of fine ales, Great Baddow is the place to be thanks to its five traditional pubs – The White Horse, The Blue Lion, The Kings Head, The Beehive and The Star, all owned by the Baddow Brewery Co Ltd.
The centre of Great Baddow is now a Conservation Area, which combines the appeal of both the antique and the new, as the heart of the old village of Great Baddow has over 30 listed buildings, whilst the newly refurbished Vineyards flats are proving to be highly regarded and sought after properties.
On the doorstep is Chelmsford originally a market town it is still the perfect place for some retail therapy with both the indoor Retail Market off Market Square, and with regular markets and a Gourmet Food Fair in the High Street.
