The town of South Woodham Ferrers is a civil parish in the borough of Chelmsford Essex situated to the east of Fenn creek near where it meets the River Crouch.
The towns railway station was built in the early 20th century. The town itself grew around the station but then underwent a dramatic period of growth in the late 70s as part of a planned development.
With a population of approx 18,000, the town is well served by a number of primary schools, William de Ferrers secondary school, which has the distinction of being a dedicated sports college, direct rail links with London Liverpool St, as well as good road links with the A130, A12 and A127 respectively.
